If someone asks me what’s the most precious thing I have in my life that I would want to spend or use it very wisely. Then my answer would be “time.” It’s the one thing that is once gone never comes back. It doesn’t have undone button. Having so much importance in one’s life, you always want to find ways to make the most out of your time.

The world is a busy place to live in and time is always running fast when you have so many chores to finish in 24 hours. At such pace, how to get more out of your day? Or what can you do by making the best use of your time? Yes, we all have gone through the phase of life where we believe we’re falling short in time.

It doesn’t matter which field you’re in right now. You’ll always need some time management helper to accomplish the everyday tasks. It all depends on how you organize your time. Once you realize the benefits of planning your day then surely you’ll make the most out of your time every day.

I’ve been following a few ways to make my day a productive day, and I could say that it’s been helping me a lot. Here’s the list of my time management tricks.

1. Plan Your Day One Day Prior

It is essential to plan a day and planning a day prior is much more beneficial to get the most out of hours in the day. I know that there are many tasks in a queue which I have to finish every day. So what I do is, I start thinking about the tasks which I have to complete by the end of the day and what will I do the next day parallelly.

How to make a schedule one day before? It starts with what time do you wake up every day. Then it comes to the habits which are very common in every house like taking breakfast with your family or going for a jog or doing some exercise or meditation or anything that can start your day with positive energy. And then doing the rest of the lined up tasks one by one. By the end of the day, I’ve already planned what do I have to do the next day.


2. Prioritize The Tasks At The Beginning Of Your Day

Prioritizing the tasks is as important as planning the functions in your day. When you start sorting the tasks according to their importance, then you’ll be more precise about which tasks need your immediate attention and which tasks can be done later and so on.

You should do this at the beginning of your day to better work according to your planning. You don’t need to worry about taking which task to take next.

3. Give Enough Time To Each Task

Sometimes when we’re running errands, we forget to give enough amount of time to any particular task. In a hurry to finish as soon as possible often it remains half and incomplete. Then that incomplete task always becomes impossible to finish. So instead take your time to finish each task with time it requires.

During weekends I always make sure I could finish all the house cleaning, washing clothes and changing bed sheets, curtains etc. one by one. But what happens is, I try to finish so fast that one of the work stays incomplete and then for whole one week I have to delay it waiting for another weekend. So instead I started doing during weekdays as well. One task at a time. It worked!

4. Don’t Be Harsh With Yourself

I don’t know what comes to my mind at the certain time that I go beyond my physical limits to finish the daily tasks. And later I realized that it’s not going to work. I felt a lot tired, frustrated and then making excuses when I really have to be up. It’s always good to stop yourself when your body doesn’t cooperate.

Take a break, be relaxed and give yourself some time to regain the lost energy both physically and mentally. Pushing yourself to a point where your body and brain both become out of sync is not going to give you a productive day you were expecting.

5. Keep Your Options Ready

It might happen that you couldn’t finish a few of the chores due to some circumstances or situation. It can be anything like heavy traffic, weather, some emergencies due to which we couldn’t accomplish what we’ve planned for the day.

I have the habit of keeping my plan B ready whenever I foresee some situation might arise. For example, my husband and I go for the grocery shopping every first weekend of the month so during monsoon we might have to cancel it due to heavy rain, so I keep some grocery in the shopping cart using online apps. They even give better discounts than the shopping mall.

6. Save Some Time For Yourself

Spending time with yourself or for yourself is never wasted. If you feel like you need some grooming then just go for it. It is always good to spend some time working out. Go for a walk, do some yoga or meet your friends.

Free yourself just for yourself. There should be something that you want to do it for yourself, make time for it. During the day I stay busy like anything but I spend one hour of time only for myself that can be anything from grooming myself to reading a book.

7. Take Help If Needed

Seeking help from someone whenever it requires is not bad at all. In fact, it is a useful and time saver. Taking support of people doesn’t mean you can’t do it yourself, but it says your work will be done 2x faster.

Taking help doesn’t mean only personal advice you can use tools to manage your time at work or home. There are plenty of apps and software available which can help you plan and manage hours in the day.

Ultimately it all depends on how you want to make every day a productive day and make the most out of your time. By learning that you can achieve the short-term and long-term goals with better results.
